After removing the outer skin of the foredeck of my '75 Trojan F32 for delamination i've noticed the gunwales are delammed as well.

would most people recommend drilling holes through the top skin and injecting epoxy or replacing the wood.

it's a nice boat but don't know if its worth the time and effort to tear out the old wood or use cpes and epoxy.

Re: gunwale delamination

It's best to keep all of the questions about this project in one thread, that way it's less confusing and easier to follow.

If it's delaminating there's a reason for it, normally water, if that's the case it won't dry out, the wood will still be wet and wet wood rots.

Injecting epoxy would be a short term bandaid, not really a fix.

It's up to you whether you want invest the time and money to rip out the wood and replace it.

i've replaced the rotted balsa in my foredeck and placed the saved fiberglass skin in place. what would be recommended to fill the gap created by the sawblade.

Re: gunwale delamination

a picture is worth a thousand words.....and in the resto forum, its allmost nessary as eash repair is different.....

as mentioned above....any repair like that that is a patch or "band aid"....

i can only guess that if you want to patch a de-lam saw blade hole .....

a epoxy (if you choose that medium) peanut butter mix.....wood flour or milled fibers with cabosil and bubbles forced into the "crack" would fill it....

dut....each repair is a bit different

thanks, i would post pictures but i can't get them to load?? so what your saying is i should scrap the saved fiberglass skin and reglass the whole foredeck?

it's a fairly large area (Trojan F-32) but i can inderstand what your saying. just a little intimidated with glassing that large of an area.
