hey, i have a 10' GW invader and its transom is rotten, i know this because it has expanded with the rot and at the top where the outboard is mounted wood is sticking out. but the only thing that is rotten is the 2 layers of 3/4 inch plywood, and in my boat this is only in the middle of the transom. so should i just use a cutting wheel and cut out the plywood, sand the area and fiberglass in the laminated plywood? i have read that i should do it from the inside, but my boat only hase a small amount of this plywood, and there are transom knees that would have to be removed, AND being only a shallow 10 foot boat with a boxed in transom makes woking back there unbeleivably terrible. i have already done the stringers. its holding a 40 HP johnson, so theres not a tremendous amount of stress on it.

Re: GW invader rotten transom

Replace the entire transom. On a 10-footer, a 40hp DOES exer a tremendous amount of stress! This is a small speed boat, so there will be a lot of bouncing around, exit/re-entry to the water, likely some fast acceleration off the line, etc. This might be facilitated by removing the deck from the hull.

Some GW Invaders had balsa core bottoms - if yours does, check that for water intrusion.

Have fun with it and use a kill switch!

- Scott
