Gypsy 15 window question

I need to take the window frames apart on my gypsy 15.

I got them removed from the boat, but I need to take the glass out of the frames so I can do some sanding and painting on the frames, and tint the glass. Also the center section had been replaced with Plexiglas sometime in the past and it is now hazed and scratched. Any thoughts?

Re: Gypsy 15 window question

The windshield is easily removed. Most windshield frames have "studs" that protrude down through the fiberglass deck. Once located, spray them with PB Blaster and let set for a day or two. It doesn't take much to break them off.
The aluminum frames do come apart. They are usually screwed together at cross corners. Remove the screws. To separate the frame from the glass,
a small block of wood and a rubber mallet are required tools. Lay the block on the glass and against the frame, gently tap the frame away. Working all four sides a bit at a time.
The center section frame is usually riveted at the hinge. Carefully drill them out. For replacement, I'd take it to a glass shop and have them install a piece of safety glass... Hope this helps!
