Does anyone know if a Gyspy 16 has a fibergalss only floor with no wood in it? Mines a 1975. I would be a happy camper if I never have to tear the floor out to remove rotting wood!!

Re: Gypsy 16-Flooring wood or fiberglass??

I was having a senior moment that day! After I posted I went out & looked by my bilge & could clearly see the plywood. Mine doesn't appear to have any rot. I did just notice that at the bow where a PO had mounted an aluminum plate for a butt seat that a little of the floor seems soft. It may just be where the carpet is pulled by the screws holding the plate to the deck. I'll pull that plate soon to mount a casting deck across the bow seats & check if I need to fix some rot. I hope I don't have to go through "The 12 Steps of Denial". Mine is a 1975.

I'm adding a casting deck over the bow seats & discovered that section of deck is almost rotted through! There was a butt seat mounted to an aluminum plate covering most of the deck under the front seats & water must have leaked through the bolts holding it in place. I haven't cut it out yet but it appears to be one large sheet of glassed plywood. The wood is rotted but there is a thick sheet of fiberglass on top of it & that's all that's left. I guess I get to see if the front end of the strongers are in good shape. The rest of the deck appears extremely solid.
