My FIL was diagnosed in Dec with Leukemia and has been having extreme bone pain and can't get around very well so I went over today to remove the remaining branches that were broken from the ice storm in December. He had some close to his service wires to the shop so I got the ladder out of the shop warmed up my saw and went up. well I made 1 cut and started to slide down the roof (metal) I barely got over to the edge and dropped my saw over the edge and grabbed on. my MIL came to the back door to watch and about had a heart attack. she came out in her house coat and slippers and moved the ladder for me. Scared the chit outta me. My wife and I were talking before I went over about hoping they had their insurance paid up or I would have to come home and fall off ours kidding around. I decided I would just get out his pole saw and get what I could from the ground. I was thinking before I dropped my saw over the edge my wife would kill me if I broke it I just got it after the ice storm but would really kill me if I fell off the roof after our talk.

I learned an important lesson today ......make sure to have help and make sure MIL is up and dressed before starting a job

Ayuh,.....

Glad You're OK,......

Your story hi-lights 2 things,.....
Actually, 1 thing that should Never be used in tree service,+ your Lack of another thing that should Always be used during tree service.....

1st off,.... Ladders kill Oh so many folks,....
I've seen/ heard of the guys who set up their ladder,+ commence to sawing,.... The branch the ladder is resting on,....
The Real Dimwits, cut between the tree,+ ladder,......
The 1s slightly brighter 1s, cut a length of branch, without realizing the loss of Weight of the fall piece causes the branch their resting to go UP,.. Alot,+ Violently....

The 2nd thing that you Didn't use is a Safety Rope........
Anytime you're doing tree service, If your feet are Not on terafirma,... You should have yourself Tied to something to break your Fall.......

If you decide to complete the work,........ Please work Safe.......

Jimr: Glad you are all right! We still have some boating to do!

Did you get any of the 90 + MPH winds last night? The wind and hail split and went around here, yet just two miles away there is heavy damage. I will need to reset the covers on my boats this evening though.

Re: had a close call today

my phone rang at 2:10 this morning wanting me go in to storm spot. momma and baby are both sick and she said your not going anywhere. So I stayed up. at one point it was headed right for us and then turned north around ripley I guess, I had no hail very little rain and more inflow wind after it went by and tons of lightning. I woke the boys up and told them to get dressed cause I didnt want the middle boy to freak out like he usually does and he did much better. I hate severe weather in the early morning. glad it missed you up there.
