A big old snapping turtle wandered into our backyard. My kids were briefly fascinated.

He slowly went on his way to wherever he was going, but I must admit, I have good memories of a long-gone Detroit restaurant called the "Turtle Soup Inn". Back in the 80s I used to get a quart of that turtle soup to go all the time. I briefly considered how much turtle soup I could make out of that guy. :D

From the wear and tear to the back of his shell, he looks pretty old. Would possibly be a little tough for frying or grilling, but looks good for soup! I gotta get me a few cow's lips and catch me a couple of them bruisers this year ... been a few years since I have done anything with turtle and the stream is getting filled with bigger ones again!

Yeah aspeck, that's what I thought too-- from his beat-up shell and his size I figured he's been around for awhile.
