So I am in contact with this guy last night, make arrangements to drive 2 plus hours to look/buy his boat from his craig's list ad. I need a boat for the Florida get together in May!

Get 90% there and call this guy to let him know I am almost there as arranged, and he says OH I JUST SOLD IT!!!!
What a waste of my day.....Whats funny was his ad was redundant with if you say your coming, please show up and dont waste my time....
Guess thats life..just venting..was a sweet deal @ 800.00

Yep...just happened to me this morning. I have missed a lot of winter fishing around here 'cause the waters too skinny. Found a neat little skiff, newer motor and a great price.
On the way there the guy calls and says he sold it to a guy who saw his sign on the boat....I was about an hour into a two hour ride.
Anyway, Kev, we live north of Tampa. I don't work, so am around here a lot. PM me if you want and I can check on anything for you for a heads up.

Thats freaky Triumph Rick! Both of us get burned on the same day! lol..
I appreciate the offer, that was very cool and I may take you up on it, with lunch or dinner on me as a small thanks!

You would think that a seller would give the person with a set appointment the opportunity to actually purchase their item, then if not contact the next person that showed interest..

Re: Had appoint to look/buy a boat today

I sold a boat a few months ago, had a guy come by to look at it while another guy was driving down to check it out. The guy driving called me and asked if he was still good to come, I said yes because the other guy seemed really disinterested, like he was just kicking tires. The tire kicker overhearing the cell conversation says, you have another buyer? I said yep he's on his way to look at it, then he says I'll buy it! Weird I had to call the driver and explain it to him, he was cool and hadn't gone very far. Even my wife was like, wow, I didn't see that coming.

It's a precarious position to be in for sure on both sides..I understand a guy in front of you with cash..The old bird in the hand deal..
I'll just keep my eyes peeled for another incredible deal!
She aint the first one that got away!

Freaky would be a third person telling us about a clean bow rider they scored today with a Johnson on the back and a pair of swivel seats.

There's a chance the seller didn't mean to inconvenience you. I know from experience selling things on CL that most of the buyers don't show up. I would definitely sell to the first one that made it with cash. At least he called you. I go to great lengths to avoid this but sometimes you can't. I just went through a lot of pain selling a projector. So many no-shows.

Re: Had appoint to look/buy a boat today

when i have had a potential buyer coming from out of town, i have always given them the courtsey to wait for them to see the boat. i have ask a local buyer if he will take the second spot, to give to out of town person the opportunity. and have never had a problem doing this.

that is if the out of town buy has let me know he is on his way. i get a lot of interest , buyers being in south Ga.

Just swing by Jax, on your way, the Gheenoe and Collins will be in the yard.

i'm with td. i sold a bay boat to a guy in the next state. he called several times while on his way just to make sure i didn't sell it under him. its a low blow to make someone drive that far just to sell out cause its easier for you

No, he didn't call me...I called him as I got off the freeway, as arranged to give him time to meet me at the boat. When I called him he said, Oh, Sorry! I just sold it..to somebody who stopped and saw the sign"

I think what burns me is I had an appointment, As a traveling sales professional, it's all about the appointment.
I worked with his schedule (only available after 1pm), I should have just been calling him at 6am saying I'm HERE!! lol...

Maybe fixing what I got ain't such a bad idea afterall...hmmmmmm

Re: Had appoint to look/buy a boat today

Same thing happened to me with a couch. Drove a half hour south of my shop in the snow to pick up a sectional couch for $50. I had called and told her what time I'd be in the neighborhood, and to give me a call when she got home from work with the address so we could hook up and do this ( this sectional had been on CL for a few days, btw ). I got all the way down there and called her again figuring she would be home by then...nope, sold it to another guy. I was pissed. I saved the day by running parallel to where I was to get another piece of furniture I was hoping to get and got that instead.

I ended up getting a sectional though. And I got a better deal..I paid more, but I got a super comfy sectional w/chaise, coffee table, 2 end tables and 2 lamps for $350 ( talked him down from 400 ). In the end, I got a better sectional than the other one and a heckuva lot more! The whole family loves the new furniture.

Now, a lady was going to pick up my old love seat today...lots of communication last night, has the address..yadda yadda yadda...no show, no email, no phone call. That pisses me off more than anything. If you find something better, let me know so I can let the next person in line know it's available again.
