Hi all and I thank you in advance for your responses.

85 Mercury Outboard - 50HP. Bought this boat and it would start with the ignition switch and once I recieved it it would click however it would not turn over to start to no clicking at all at the Solenoid. I can jump the motor at Solenoid and engine runs fine but I get nothing when turning at the ignition switch. I have replaced the ignition switch and still no clicking at Solenoid while I have checked all wiring connections with a multimeter and I have 12V at both the ignition and Solenoid small terminals.

HELP PLEASE?!?!
Thanks!!!

Uh, replace the solenoid? I replace a lot of them every year. They wear out. ;)

Thanks Willy for your response. Replace even if I am getting voltage to it at both large and small terminals?

Yes, if you are getting voltage at the terminals, but no start, then the magnetic switch is not engaging.

Thanks Studly, I assume that the magnetic switch is inside of the solenoid? Sorry I am VERY new to this and I appreciate greatly your help!;)

Time for a new one.

Time for a new one.

It's inside, non-repairable, just put in a new one; it's a simple procedure.

Thanks again Studly, it's on order. It's amazing how much I have learned in the past two weeks.

the magnet pulls down a bronze washer that completesthe circuit from one big post to the other big post to the starter. These contacts get green gunk on them from arcing and just quit.
