Re: Had Transom Plate made

Did you READ the thread that you posted? It clearly states that this is NOT the recommended method to use for a suspected weak transom and is usually ONLY for COSMETIC purposes. If you think your transom is weak you should drill core sample from the inside to investigate and then take the appropriate action. These type of fixes can be dangerous!

Listen to woodonglass, this is mearly a bandaid on a gapping wound! If the wood is gone, you are depending on a thin skin of 'glass to hold the torgue of the motor, once broken, the boat tends to take on water pretty fast!

Re: Had Transom Plate made

I have done core samples and found one place out of the six or seven holes that I drilled that came out dark shavings. Which yes I know that is a sign rot has begun. I had it made just to add some more strength since the boat is over 40 years old. There was none to very little flex before I added the plate. Just trying to put some more durability into an old boat.

I can put 1 inch of glass wrapping your transom on the outside..but .. it will not affect the Inside or structure of the boats integrity ..

You can add 2" of SS plate on the unit..but the Whole of the Base Structure can be failed ... so you can lose 2" of plate if you want.. its still a viable construct on a failed substrate .. your going to fail in the short/long run ..because the sub can not handle your " modded " fixit ...understand .. ?
