I am trying to determine if it is possible/feasible to extend the shaft of my '89 88hp evinrude spl from 20" to 25". Please see the thread already started titled "'89 88hp evinrude spl"<br /><br />Thanks.........FreeBeeTony

Anything is possible. <br /><br />As the guys have stated, you will need a complete mid section less mounting brackets, tilt tube and trim unit. You will have to change the driveshaft. Unfortunately the 89's were one piece shafts so you will need to disassemble the unit, replace the d/shaft, reshim, reseal and replace the pump kit. You may or may not need a gear set depending on what you find. The shift shaft unscrews and the new one screws back in.<br /><br />Everything on the powerhead remains as is, including linkage.<br /><br />Good luck!
