Hello Flyrod.
It is a pity that we did not meet.I was meandering at the dock looking for a man with a white hat and a grey shirt, but as luck had it ,we did not meet.
How was the fishing you ask? Never, never go out fishing under a blue moon!!!!
We were six people and between the six of us,we caught about ten fish, all of them in the first hour. The rest of the day was just LOUSY.
I think it may be because of all the gill nets that are all over the place,I mean all over the place. It seems that every Gloucester man has two of them.
Or maybe it is because of all the bait fish that is on the bank.I mean ,why would a haddock or a cod eat clams, when there is all that fresh food floating all around him. There were so many sand eels that the whales did not even dive down to get them. They were just swimming around with their mouth half open, swallowing the eels by the thousands, while the gulls were perched on their heads.
We went all around the east side ,up to 25 miles out,but to no avail.
The fishing stunk up to the point where Kevin apologized and offered us another trip at a very steep discount.
The purpose of this trip, was for my two sons and me to be together on an adventure and that part worked really well. You do not need fish to enjoy the company of your children.

The Blue Moon theory. Yes it is bad for fishing. My charter on Saturday wasn't productive either. Tried all kinds of tricks to get them stripers to bite, nothing worked. Couldn't even catch a dogfish.

June 1 was also the opening day for commercial fishing on one section of the Bank. like you said gill nets all over the place. Actually a gill net boat is allowed 80 nets. And then there are the draggers.

At the moment from Gloucester to the Canadian border is closed to commercial fishing till July 1st. and then you will see gill nets along the whole coast.
