THANKS to all who answered my calls for help, EZEKE and others. I have a 1997 50hp evinrude remote with t/t. Had a hard time starting, wouldn't maintain an idle. Ezeke helped convince me to replace the power pack, I found a pinched primary coil wire behind the mounting plate holding the power pack, ignition coils and rectifiers... It was the wire for the #1 plug coil. I cut and buttspliced the wire, sealed with liquid tape. NO MONEY AND I"M RUNNING BETTER THAN EVER!
I can't believe the power pack and/or stator survived the short circuit. I also can't believe the motor ran at all! thought you might like to know what I found.

Re: Hallelueyah, she's running

Good for you bruce, its a great feeling to have it back up and running. I had a similar issue when I had the head off replacing water deflectors. Some how during the removal of the head and putting back on a wire got pinched or broke, (not visable) and it was shorting to the block causing 1 cylinder to drop. Enough to make a guy go crazy, due to it was intermittant.
