hey guys... finishing up my milkshaker 3.7 (found out I had a bad riser gasket... and so far not a drop of coolant has gone back into the oil pan yipee!!!) I am rebuilding my starter because it is very weak and rusted .... but out of curiousity...with the plugs off I can hand turn it fine...with a bit of resistance...and even with the plugs in...can hand turn it fine...with the usual kick forward as each piston finishes the compression stroke. My question is..how much resistance is normal?

I was worried about hydro lock when the oil pan filled up with coolant.... but no bent rods... no odd noises when I hand crank (or even with my very weak starter) and everything seems to go up n down just fine.

thanks !

With just the engine, not much, but if hooked up to the outdrive thwill be a little more because your turning the driveshaft and impeller. If you are turning it by hand it should be OK.

ahh right...I also juuuuuuuuust changed the impeller so that makes sense with the extra umph. wish me luck. If I could post a picture of my starter (it is right below the riser so guess where the coolant went?) I would...but tonight I will be in de-corrosion mode. what a pain.
