Just a quick note to say I brought "Sweetheart" home from storage and she is now in our garage. 2008 Lund 1750 Fisherman w/115hp Merc 4-stroke and Shorelandr' trailer.

Immediately before she went into storage last November I took her back to the selling dealer for winterizing. They always do a thorough job by not only changing the engine and lower unit oil and adding fuel stabilizer, but also running antifreeze through the pumps and lines for the bilge and live-wells, and lubricating everything on the motor and trailer that has a zirk fitting, including the Bearing Buddies.

I checked the engine oil and noticed it was only about a third into the hash marks of the "ok" area. Thinking it should have been at the full mark, I decided to check the owner's manual before adding more. Seems I read something about it before, but couldn't remember. Sure enough, the manual gives specific warnings about overfilling the crankcase oil, and says that as long as the oil level is in the hash marks area it is ok. So, I'll let it be and will check it after I get her out on the water the first time.

After loading everything back that I took out before putting her into storage (stuff insurance won't pay for if boat is stolen or destroyed), rotating the tires on the trailer, and giving her a wash and a wax, I couldn't help but stand back and admire the quality of Lund boats. This will be her third season. The first two were absolutely wonderful. Can't wait. -Ken

Glad to see a big time Lund guy here, and glad to hear you are happy with your Lund as I am happy with mine( I should probably change my username
from SeaNymph Man to Lundman A-14). They are definitely the best built boats on the water, and anyone that says otherwise doesn't know their butt from a hole in the ground!

Re: oil level situation in Merc 115hp 4-stroke...

Took the boat out on May 6 for first run of the season. Gee, she ran great! The oil level was 1/3 above add when starting out, but upon return home it was just a tad under the add mark. Hmmm.

Bought some Merc 4-stroke 25w-40 oil according to manual and added 8 oz. That brought it up to about 1/2 above add again. Took her out again on May 18 and checked the oil upon return and it was 1/3 above add. For giggles I checked it again the next morning and it was only 1/4 above add. Hmmm.

So decided to take boat to dealer the next day. Service manager and I checked it and it was about 2/3 above add (maybe from bouncing around on the road?). I told him that when they winterized the boat the previous year the oil level was at the full mark. He explained that starting last fall they decided not to fill the crankcase to the full mark because some customers complained their engines were being overfilled. The Merc manual is very clear that they should not be overfilled.

He said it just takes a while running the engine to get the oil settled. I've run it maybe 80 minutes so far this season, using the electric trolling motor the rest of the time we were on the lake. As long as the level stays in the normal range, I'm happy.

Re: Happy Lund owner

When I pick up my Lund with a 30 hp Merc there was oil on the shop floor.
He said he just spilled some. When I looked the next day in the garage the floor was covered with oil. I pulled the dip stick out and in was right at the top of the tube. Called the dealer and took it back. He changed oil and filter.
It was about 3/4 above add. The next day it was above full. I drained a little out it's been ok now. Have about 7 hours on the motor.

Re: Happy Lund owner

Just had another "Happy Lund Owner" moment.

Decided to add a fish finder to the bow. Bought a Eagle Cuda 300 and an adapter cable to plug into the Minn Kota PowerDrive V2 trolling motor with its built-in transducer. But the adapter cable also had leads to connect to power.

Hmm, where to connect the power leads. Okay, look under top of bow and find all sorts of securely fastened wiring. Get flashlight and volt meter and discover two unattached leads with female connectors on them. Those leads could have been provided by the Lund factory, but thinking they were there probably from the Minn Kota installation. Turn on master power and check with volt meter and, wa-la, 12 volts! Bought male connectors for the adapter cable and an "L" bracket at nearby Home Depot.

Boat came with 4 Sport Trak brackets of which still had one that was unused (other 3 for rod holder, drink holder and tool holder). Drilled holes in both the "L" bracket and Sport Trak bracket, then put it all together and fastened everything to the Sport Trak itself.

You gotta admit, that Sport Trak system Lund has is pretty sweet, eh?
