Hi I have a early 80's 40 two stroke on a bass tracker. I had the ignition module replaced last year and have just broken the starter tabs off after trying to start it. This is the second time this has happened. had it welded two years ago. It seems like it sometimes is really hard to crank almost kicking back which is probably what broke the starter mount. I can hardly pull the motor over with the rope starter. Would this be a timing problem? Up till now it started really well like half a crank and it was running. just occasionally it would kick back and this time it broke the ear off. I am on vacation now, figures:blue:, and would apprecyiate any suggestions of what to try to get the motor running again at least so I can get it back to the launch.
Thanks for any suggestions

Anyone have any thoughts?
Could the exhaust valves be sticking causing a build up in pressure?
is there a timing setting I could check?
Thanks for any help if I cant get this started it will be a long paddle

I was reading an old post that referenced a warm up lever that advances the spark. Could this be the problem and can anyone show what this lever is and if possibly it might be over advancing causing kick back?
Please, a little help would be greatly appreciated!

Two strokes have reed valves, not valves like a four stroke, and the warm up leaves is built into the controller, depending on that it can work several ways.

And I have no idea on why it would kick back hard enough to break tings off.
