hard idle

I have a 93 Suxuki 8hp. The engine sat for 2 years and carb was clogged. I rebuilt the carb and it now runs, but You must choke the engine to start it, even when warm. I never had to do this before it sat. When the engine idles it backfires 1 time every 30 seconds or so. When you rev the engine it doesn't do it anymore. What gives?
