I won't to thank all of you guys for your post over the years.I do a search and all questions are answered. But I think I messed up.On my 1978 omc cobra I but on a bellows and in the process I notice where the shift cable is the pocket was crusted up pretty well with salt/something and wet in it.So I cleaned it out best that I could. And thinking it would be good to put grease in there to help it keep dry.Now it's not coming out of gear or shifting wright and I did all the setting wright. So 1. did I do wrong and 2. Should it be wet in there if not where would it leak at the arm? 3. And last how do you know if your cable core is bad will it stretch? thanks again you keep me on the water and going.

I assume that your statement re 1978 omc cobra was a typo. There is no such animal.

Sorry yes 1987 cobra don't have any pic,s haven't took overdrive off again. The cavity is where the bellcrank lever is and the shift cable guide is.I filled it with grease now I think it is binding things up in there not letting the arm move free.Best pic I can see is in the omc manual page 11-12 pic 53 where the P is thanks

Hastings describes that in the first part of the article. Must begin with pulling the drive and going from there.
