hard start 74 7.5

i have a 1974 mercury 7.5hp after it sits up for awhile say overnight it is hard to start and i have to use a small amount of starting fluid sprayed into the carb. afterwards it will crank right up and will have one pull cranks all day i have tried new plugs and checked for leaks.The motor runs perfect all day after the first start. also has new points and coils. Thanks for any help. mike

Please don't use starter fluid on a 2 cycle, your carb could be lean on idle adj, ck your choke adj. some times the cable slips or you may have to clean the carb---Bob
