My 305 GM with 2bbl carb has started a new trick. It starts cold and runs beautiful; lots of power and never misses a beat. Idles perfect as well. However, after pulling a skier for a while I shut the engine down after about a 1-2 minute idle period to let the skier back into the boat. After that, it no longer wants to start. I have to wait about 15 minutes, then it starts right back up again.

This has happened a few times and I've tried all throttle positions from not touching it at all to WOT and nothing seems to do the trick.

I did a complete ignition system tune-up in May (and I do mean complete) and checked and rechecked to make sure everything, like timing, dwell, and plug gap is in spec. I replaced the fuel filter and seperator filter and my fuel flow is excellent. Spark is strong and blue/white.

Where should I start? I haven't done a compression test and I know the motor is a little tired, but it runs so darn good and I'm not burning any oil.

This just started out of the blue... any ideas?

Thanks!
kh
