I only use my boat a few times a year and over the last year it has gotten hard to start the first time of the day. It starts okay on the trailer but in the water it will fire right away but stall as soon as the starter is disengaged. I know the choke is working, but it does not help. This start-stall will continue until I take it out of gear and advance the throttle. It will then keep running, but will cover the entire launch area with a blanket of smoke. After 15-20 seconds I can bring it back to neutral and it will idle on the Quickstart feature. It starts and runs perfectly the rest of the day. I usually siphon out the old gas and add fresh gas with 2+4 before each trip. Is there any thing I can check for or do differently.

Start it more often. The fuel in the carbs evaporates away leaving the two cycle oil behind when an engine sets for long periods. That's why it smokes like a pig on initial startup. It also increases the chances of fouled carburetors. Also it is a good idea to run the engine on the hose before launching after a set up spell as it runs more freely without the exhaust back pressure.

Thanks ob. I always start it on the hose the night before a trip but maybe I don't run it long enough, as I get worried that the neighbors will call the fire department.
