i hvae new fuel and filters , rebuilt fuel pumps and carbs , replaced grey fuel line not sure whats next. runs great once you get moveing

Sitting for 2 - 3 hours is the same as starting a cold engine. Raise the fast idle lever a bit, give a bit of choke (push in the key when cranking) if necessary.

Re: hard starting after running

There are lots of possibilities. If you suspect that the ignition is failing when it won't start, a good thing to do is use a DVA meter, timing light, or spark tester to see if the spark is failing when it won't start. If the spark is bad, you can further troubleshoot what ignition part is failing by following the troubleshooting guide in your shop manual.

If the spark is good, the motor is cranking fast enough, and you are following a good starting procedure, you can reasonably suspect that you have a fuel delivery problem. If so, the next thing I would try is spray some fuel/oil mix (50:1) into the carb throats while cranking to see if the motor responds. If it does, you have confirmed a fuel delivery problem and might consider recleaning the carbs as a possible fix. Sometimes carb passages are not as clean as one assumes if the parts were not well soaked in a can of parts and carb cleaner as part of the rebuild.

If the spark is good and the motor still does not respond to the spray, you have a puzzling problem that will take more troubleshooting tests.

Just my thoughts.

Do you have the motor trimmed almost all the way down?
I have a 97 xr6 and I have to trim the motor all the way down so the fuel can travel down the carbs easier.
