I have a 1972 silverton 33 with hydralic steering. When I first put the boat in the water the steering was very hard. I checked all the lines for kinks and found nothing. I disconected the rudders and they move free. I disconected the lines from the ram and the helm moved free. I found out the ram was siezed. I took the ram appart to find it was perfectly clean inside. I reassembled the ram and it was no longer siezed. so I put it back in the boat and it steered perfect. About a month later it started to get a little harder again. And it seems like it keeps getting harder by the week. I used trans fluid to fill the system. Could that be the main problem?

Sounds more like an air block/lock problem but I'm no hydralic expert. I believe others have used trany fluid too without issues.

SeaStar only recommends using auto trans oil for emergencies, and then draining and replacing with their oil, or equal asap. Not sure if that is your problem, but I recently researched correct oil to use on their systems.
