Just bought a 1999 60hp 2cycle merc. it starts ez cold but warm its hard to start. im not sure how to best start it from warm. after several trys i smell gas, does it flood ez? for a warm start should i choke it again (choke is on the key by pushing in)? should i have the throtle half open or nether, after i do get it to start (from warm) it will blow smoke out for one minute then runs clean so maybe im flooding it ? thanks don

Re: hard to start warm motor

My older 50 HP requires 50% fast idle and choke when cold, 50% fast idle and no choke when warm. A blip of the key is all that it should take when warm.

sounds like the carbs need a good cleaning and adjusting maybe the needle seats and sealing off or the floats are set to high. if everything is right you shouldnt need to choke of fast idle after warm
