I have a 1978 115 mariner inline6 that has a strange firing problem one day it will crank and the next day it wont.I have checked all the wiring and everything looks ok.
Ck your batt connections, if it clicks and don't turn over ck the solnoid and then the starter, if it don't click ck the solnoid, neutral start switch and key switch---Bob
CHECK THE CHOKE AND MAKE SURE THE BUTTERFLIES ARE SYNCHED RIGHT . HAD A COUPLE OF OMC'S THAT WOULD DO THAT. DROVE ME CRAZY . RUN GREAT SOMEDAYS AND OTHERS WOULDN'T EVEN TRY.
If it's a 1978 check the wires at the switchbox too. The red wire should be +12 all the time and the white wire outta go +12 when the key is in the "run" position. Past that make sure all the connections are clean and tight, like the power-plug and both sides of the switchbox.

I'm assuming by "quit firing" you mean loses spark as tested at a spark plug.

-W
