Hello people of iBoats. I have started a new thread on an issue I’m dealing with because it has evolved past what I originally thought the problem was and is no longer relevant to the initial thread.

I am working on an old starflite 3, 75 horse that is currently not running. It’s most likely been sitting for 30 years and I have just gotten everything to somewhat free up and I can turn the crank around. I am rotating the crank with a breaker bar on the flywheel nut but when I get to a certain position in the cycle it gets hard to turn, so hard that the starter stops when it gets to this bad spot. I can get it around with some force and it is hard for about 1/4 to half of a revolution. I’ve pulled the heads and spent an afternoon cleaning up the cylinders and removing carbon and other gathered filth. I’ve also removed the lower unit, loosened the distributor assembly, and removed the starter to make sure nothing else is stopping the flywheel from spinning freely. I’m stuck here and don’t know what kind of problem the issue I’m having points to. My capabilities are pretty limited as I don’t have a cherry picker or engine stand and have so far been doing all this work off the trailer so if anyone has had any similar problems/solutions I would greatly appreciate it!

Remove powerhead and take it apart.-------Get a helper to lift it off.----Not much more than 120 lbs.

Is this the part where it splits from the intake section of the block? Or should I disconnect everything and lift the whole thing off.

The whole powerhead must be removed.----After you do this you will see the bolts on the bottom and the reason.

Done and done. Got the power head benched. Unfortunately the general service manual for these engines in the fiberglassics library seems to be missing page 68 where I assume information about the power head and refurb / teardown procedures are.

Here are the pages you are likely looking for from a newer(1972) publication of that Book. It covers your engine as well as any 3rd party book does. I think it is the better of them

In my opinion it is just nuts and bolts.----Nothing complicated.
That’s how I always look at this stuff. As long as I stay organize
