Is it hard to turn when on the trailer?

X2

It does help to grease the shaft for your steering cable and on some boats the helm can be lubed up a little as well. If you lube the shaft behind your outboard etc. and it is still hard to turn look at the helm behind the steering wheel and there is a tension adjustment on some helms as well. There is no way to lubricate the cable that I am aware of...unless someone else has an idea for that.

When I had my Mercury 150 I did all the above and it was still hard to turn...so I had the whole steering cable replaced (as well as the helm for my boat because it was shot) After replacing it I could steer with one finger where like you..mine was very hard to steer.

Good luck and let us know how it goes.

Ya, you can disconnect from the outboard motor to see if the cable is stiff.
