Hey all -
I'm working on my interior refit - I'll start a thread soon to show what I'm doing on that.
I do have a different question though, about hard top sizes. I have a second boat that I'm scrapping, and I pulled the hard top off it to rework. It's a fiberglass shell with some wood reinforcement, I figured I could fix it up and use it on my 21 foot Sea Ray SRV-210.
Here's the problem: The top is about 5 feet wide and 5 feet long. It's not square, but those are the maximum dimensions each way. It came off of a 22 foot Sea Ray 10 years older than the one I want to use it on. It also has attachments for a camper enclosure on the back, which I have.
It fit the old boat because it had a different cap design... the cap came up about a foot more than the newer boat, and narrowed to permit walking around the cockpit to the bow. Truth be told I like that design better than the newer boat, but I digress.
The cockpit on the new boat is about 7 feet wide, and from the trailing edge of the windshield to the inner cap wall at the transom it's about 8 feet. I had figured I could munge up some supports and mount this top over the cockpit, with about a foot and a half of air space between the top edge of the windshield and the top.
My question after all this prep stuff is: Will I be unhappy with the amount of protection this top gives, and will it look funny not to have a full width top on the boat?
Mostly I want the top for keeping rain off my head in the cockpit, and for mounting stuff overhead (antennas etc.).
I suppose I could build a similar top with a couple weeks effort that's full size, but this one looks quite nice and is all ready to go.
