Getting close to the time of year where we freeze overnight, and soon it'll be below 0 (C) for some months. I've always noticed water comes out of the motor variously if tilted up, then down, whether left up or down before. Never had a problem with freezing, but what is the definitive way to get the water out? Motor in question is a 1982 90 xflow.

Getting set to yank the 90 for teardown and mix/match with the 140 parts unit. Going to be a fun winter of tinkering.

Cheers from the GWN.

In the normal running position the motor will drain itself.------Turning the flywheel by hand after shutdown on the trailer will drain waterpump and water tube to the motor.

as racer said...I also like to grease the swivel and steering tube zirks as you sometimes get water out there but that could be part of your normal winterization routine.

Geez I hate "stiff water" season. I bought my boat late in the year , and due to cost and availability of some crucial parts, havn't even run my motor yet . I had too much boat repair work. So I guess it will get fogged by merely cranking the starter! I have no inside storage...so I suspect it will spend time in the snowdrifts! I hate that thought.

We have a saying here: 9 months of winter and 3 months of tough sledding. I was happy I got the boat on the water at all this year. So much fun rewiring the trailer, re-plumbing the brakes and general motor maintenance. The wiring and brake work thanks to my Rottweiler having chewed it all up. First launch was August 1. They drain the lake in another 3 weeks or so (it's an irrigation reservoir/pleasure lake).
