boracare​

it is used mainly in housing to protect wood from termites, but also helps stop wood decay.
it is also used in some of the new pt wood (i think it looks more blue than the old green.)​

has any one seen or heard of this? (my background is pest control) it's kinda like boraxo with an acholol to absorb into the wood.​

I just looked it up and it's MSDS states "This product may corrode aluminum." and one of it's primary ingredients is Ethylene Glycol which is actually anti-freeze.

Google anti-freeze and wood rot and that has been done for some time.

Maybe down south insects are a problem to wood but up here where I am....... the winter cold usually kills them dead.

Like bob said, and, most boats don't have an issue with insects, unless you have carpenter ants, like I did in my Grumman.

Boric acid is used to kill/deter insects, does a good job.

Do you want to preserve the wood or keep the little buggers out?

i was thinking more for wood rot and decay than "insects"
the primary ingredient ( you can tell that by the label)is D.O.T.( Ethylene Glycol is listed as the haz. mat. and also note no free Ethylene Glycol is present.)the Ethylene Glycol is actualy used to soak the dot into the wood. so if the transom was coated in resin none would contact the alum. or fiberglass(it wouldn't matter) it actually prohibits decay and like the one guy who had carpenter ants... that would not have happened.

winter does not kill bugs... up north they just have a shorter season .
i was thinking more like you guy's up north spend more time with your boats under cover
i'm a cert. pest control operator(fdacs)
the test needed to pass includes info for the entire state.
remember it gets cold here too, just doesn't snow​

I remember seeing that product mentioned on here-I just read about it a few minutes ago....It was about using it to kill wood rot and being used as a preservative just like you mentioned....lemme see if I can find it....

bora care is like a second generation of boric acid
(think boraxo if you old enough 13 mule team)
boric acid will not dissolve in water
timbor will but maybe a 1/32 of an inch
boracare will soak into the wood, if applied to a 4x4 in about 4 weeks it will soak into about all but a 1/2 inch of the middle
has i stated it's used in alot of the new treated lumber without the arsenic or heavy metals​

yeah that was me. i've used the product professionally and personally had some water damage where i had to strip off some dry wall and use a sister product to inhibat mold

like the comedian said i have the right to remain silent... but not the ability​
