I was wondering if anybody on the site has used boatboard for their deck? I seen it on a site but I am new to this and wasnt sure how you would bond it to the hull. It is fairly expensive but it would suit my fishing boat if it is possible to bond it to the hull.

Do you have a link to the product? I'm not familiar with it but would be interested in reading more details.

Link

Looks like a cool product. Almost $200 per 4.5' by 8' sheet at 1/2" thick but might be worth it if its a boat you plan on keeping for a long time and store outdoors. I wonder how heavy it is?

Seems a bit pricey to me for what it is. I'd be curious as to the strength of the product.

also known as starboard, they have this stuff at the local fishing store. They have it built into ladders and livewells and swim decks. They talk highly of it, but I have never used it.

If I had the money, i'd use it. Especially if building a fishing boat. It would be extremely easy to clean.

The product is heavy, weak, pricy and while this model is textured, UHMWPE can be very slippry.

I would use it over plywood. Didn't know it was slippery tho.

UHMWPE has many uses in the marine industry, but its not a structural product and I know of no company that uses it as a floor. It does get used in swim steps, hatch covers and other odds and ends, but only in applications with little or no stress, or when supported very well. At $200.00 a sheet and 4 to 6 sheets needed for a typical floor, you just added a great deal of weight and cost with little benefit.

I've used it for backing for upholstery on rails and for seating. Worked well.

I've not used it for flooring. It would be heavy, and I'd worry about waterproofing the seams.

You have to use screws.... just about NOTHING will adhere to it and it still tends to be slippery. I do not think it is worth the cash.

It weighs about 100 pounds a sheet from what i read on the site. I found it on noahsboatbuilding.com if you want to check it out.

evil ... might aswell just go with a good 7 ply 3/4" plywood sheet and epoxy resin seal it then glass the edges and top ... waterproof and strong. easily washed down.

I guess if theres not really any way of sealing it to the hull then i will have no use for it. Its a little costly to have to buy plywood and this stuff so ill just stick with the carpet idea i think

I have looked into it in the past. I checked out a full sheet at Marine Hardware in Key West last time we were there. Heavy stuff no doubt. I think it would be good for smaller custom do-dads like rod locker dividers and maybe an odd sized hatch. Stuff like that.
