I have a tach. out of my Double Eagle with a 91 force 50 and US Marine control. The tach has no name . I opened it up and found a smoked resistor. Hard to say if anything else is burned. Other than replacing the resitor how can I check if it is repairable? I have moderate electronic skills and understanding of electronics...

Hi, resistors usually burn from some other component drawing too much current through the resistor, that spells a short, first check for something else that looks like it got real hot, then see if you can determine the smoked resistor's resistance and wattage values, if it's a high wattage resistor (large physical size) you have a fairly bad short, if it's a low wattage resistor it could be anything causing the short, replace it and see what happens, at this point you got little to lose, look for smoke and quickly touch the other parts with a finger tip looking for hot parts, good luck,,,,,
