Has anyone used a product called "Stern saver"?

Hello everyone. I was wondering if anyone has used a product that's on the market called Stern saver? It is a piece of starboard that attaches to the transom of your boat by a special glue to mount your transducer so you don't have to drill or put screw holes in the boat transom. Thanks.

I have seen it but haven't used it. Seems to be simple enough and probably does what it is supposed to. What's your concern?

Mounting stuff on a glued-on board (synthetic preferred) is a recommended technique; don't know that you have to buy anything special, though.

I think ricohman on this board has used it, and I'm sure others have as well. Might want to search his name for threads where he discusses it, or maybe he'll happen along here and see this...

I used a piece of nylon and just hot glued to the transom. Never had an issue with it coming off except when hit by accident. Then I just hot glued it back on.

I've used it and I like this product. I couldn't bring myself to drill those lower holes in my new boat so I tried this and it worked very well.
Plus I can adjust the transducer any way I please with just loosening the bolts.
You could probably glue anything you want onto your transom but since I bought a new boat I figured I might as well have a nice looking mount instead of something I cobbled together. This thing isn't coming off and the cement smells like ortho bone cement.

I used a hunk of the last white synthetic cutting board we stopped using in the kitchen. glued it with 3M 5200 and it has stayed just fine, cost was in the 3m/5200 under $10.00 which I still have most of.

ricohman, I realize I'm not too smart, but what is Ortho Bone Cement? I've never heard of such. I take it that it must be some seriously good stuff but where do you get such stuff? I've used tons of different types of glues over the years and Weldon glues so far have been the best glues I've ever came across yet...

I'm an OR Nurse. We use it to cement total joints. You can't buy this stuff from Home Depot but I am sure there is a retail application somwhere. But I'm not a glue expert!

ricohman, thanks for the reply. If you ever get some time research all the types of glues Weldon company produces and see what you think. I have used a few of their products and I seriously like them. It is very hard to seal plexiglass to itself, but Weldon #4 (if I remember correctly now) works like magic and is completely crystal clear too... It is a two part glue that is a little thick to work with but holds like welded together metal... Being how my sister was an OR registered nurse (now retired) I'm sure she knows about that stuff as well. I'll ask her and research that glue...

This is a first. I haven't found any glue that works on Starboard. Interesting.

and you can mount the starboard with screws and then screw the instrument to the board. Sure you have holes that way but you can swap out the instrument without worry.

It's also what you might do with an already painted hull.

Seems to me not to be that big a worry for a boat that isn't left overboard, as long as you seal your screws.

Ricohman, did the installation go smoothly? Did you have to rough up the gelcoat to get the mount to stick? I have a transducer mounted with screws now (previous owner did this) and I was thinking about removing it, filling the screw holes with marine tex and installing a stern saver.

My boat is painted aluminum.
Yes you have to scuff up the paint. I took it right down to the hull as the glue covers up the exposed area anyway.
The installation was simple and I'd use this again. The only difficult part for me was deciding on where to mount the tranducer considering the strakes on the bottom of the boat.
My previous fiberglass boat had soggy screw holes and thats one reason I went this route.
