Getting ready to paint my 29 foot Cruisers.....all three deck hatches have minor leaks between the glass and rubber seal, the actual housing to deck joints seem to be watertight.

Since I am painting I figured it might be a good idea to remove these hatches, paint the boat then reinstall them. If so I plan to buy new gasket to go between the glass and hatch frame, but what should I use or do about where the hatch mates to the deck, 3M 5200?????

Also the boat has the infamous leaky sliding side cabin windows, now these are leaking. I read on a surveyors website that it was best to reseat these windows with silicone, place a nice bead around the hole and let it rubberize before re-installing the window, that way It would form a nice gasket? Any suggestions, and also once again....what type of silicone?

Not silicone, sikaflex. You want something that sticks well and stretches more easily than 5200.

Silicone is pretty well worthless for this.

thanks eric, does sikaflex remain rubberized when it cures or does it harden?
