Re: haul out and in/ storage fees
Depends on:
1-Where You are (fees seem to be 'regional' as well as 'competition' related),
2-How long You plan on owning "THAT" boat acquired, and
3-How often You plan on hauling out?
IF You must haul for winters, or spring to bottom paint, etc. my suggestion would be, especially for the size You're seeking, I'd look for a trailer along with that acquisition, even if You Don't have a suitable tow vehicle. You can contract a friend, co-worker, nearly anybody w/a truck with a ball on the bumper and have the boat on a trailer, You can get it pulled to ANYWhere to have stored (including most storage unit rental facilities) for as a rule, FAR Less than what You'll pay for waterfront dry storage on stands. In my case, we pay $9. a foot avg. on the W.Coast of FL for Dry storage, per month and haul out/splash-launch is about that figure again each way. Whether travel lift, rail or crane, these are pretty accurate #'s. The DRY Storage fees can pay for that trailer very quickly, and they MUST Charge that much as the convenience others enjoy long enough to get their bottoms refinished and painted is totally appropriate, for them. In Your case, You will pay the big bucks, because the marina/yard owner pays big bucks...for security, labor, property taxes, insurance, licenses, etc.; all BECAUSE they're WaterFront. Developers would love to buy that land and put up more condos. That's what Your marina/dry storage yard owner is up against.
Keeping the boat, on Your own trailer, on their land on the opposite side of the road (in cases where they own dirt on both waterfront and off the water) will typically get You a savings of 50% per month.
