I finally got my boat in the water this year (after 3 years of tinkering). I know that I get water in the oil when on muffs, wanted to see what happens when in the water. I know that was a irresponsible decision but the boat only cost me $350 and a new manifold is $500 and a motor is more than that. Anyway I've had it in the water for at least 2 hours of run time and the oil is still perfect. If I hook it up to the hose I'll have milky oil in about 10 minutes. Any ideas? Thanks.

Thanks for the response. Brand new impeller kit was installed when my lower drive was rebuilt.

The engine will get hotter when you run it at speed and under a load. It will evaporate any water in the oil. (As long as no more water is getting in the oil). Are you sure you still have a problem? It still gets milky on the muffs? That's an odd one. I can't see the impeller having anything to do with it.

Well I've been avoiding the muffs all summer because I was changing the oil after every time I worked on the boat. I just got it in the water a few weeks ago, yesterday was probably my last day this year due to low water levels in the nearest lake and the oil is still perfect. I haven't gotten all the bugs worked out, waiting on a carb rebuild kit (it won't idle). If I get this done soon I may make the trip down to the river and try it again but of course I'd have to run it on the muffs to verify it'll run before I make the trip.

I'd use lakes til you can trust the engine. It's hard to get back upstream on a shut down or failed engine.
