I got a new prop and was wanting to test it. 4 blade Solas Amita. I figure I'll do a little fishing after running it also.

So I get as much ready as I can the night before. I refuse to leave much in the boat in case somebody might get sticky fingers. Consequently I have to take off the tarp, load the tackle box, fishing pole, trolling motor, hook up main battery, raise engine, put on transom saver... ect. I do several walk arounds, pull ahead a couple of car lenghts and get back out and check it all over AGAIN. Wheeew, finally ready to leave.

Drive my 5 miles to a lake that's just long enough to stretch the boats legs. Go through the whole double checking/prelaunch stuff. Get the boat in the water and all is well.

I'm testing the prop. Watching RPM's and speed on a GPS. Prop is working great, better than expected really so after four runs I decide to settle down and do some fishing.

Shut the big motor off, put the troller on, everything is looking great! I turn around and... gee, where is my fishing pole?!?! ARRRGGHH! I left the pole at home!!!!

After all that I didn't forget, I forget the pole.

Apparently I'm one of those people that needs a laminated check list...

3 good things though.

1) Nobody got hurt and nothing got damaged.
2) I have a new bimini to mount and should be doing that today rather than fishing.
3) This will push me to make a check list. What if this were something important and somebody got hurt. I probably got off easy here.

i always have a pole in the vehicle. never know when the urge to stop at a fishing hole comes. but that was pretty funny. at least you know the prop works well though.

I wouldn't look at it as a "Missed Fishing Trip", I would consider it an "Extended Test and Tune Experience".

It's all in the way you look at it. :D:D:D

Well, at least you didn't run over your fishing pole and ruin it.

Have a friend who went through everything, checked and re-checked and etc, preparing for a hunting trip. Everything was perfect and ready, nothing overlooked, or so he thought....

He had leaned his handmade recurve bow against the front of the trailer while doing one last check of things in the back of the pickup, closed the tailgate and the topper door, hopped in the truck and drove away..... the trailer tires destroyed his beautiful bow.

Not a good way to start a hunting trip...

The LAST thing on ANY checklist should be do a walk around. This means EVERY time you get in the vehicle, too! Not only could there be a child's toy behind a tire, there might be a child.
Never skip the very last thing on the checklist. NEVER!
