No I dont have a manual and will get one soon, but in the meantime I am anxious to get to work on the boat. It is a 1979 silverline nantuckett. Has a 350 260 hp engine and i dont know what the outdrive is. just says Mercruiser Power Trim on it. I want to take the engine and drive off. Are there 4 or 6 bolts holding the drive to the boat? and is that where i have to detach the drive where it meets the boat or do i take off the six nuts at the top of drive? The Gimball and ujoints are most likely shot and a few other things including the engine. Anyhow it looks very difficult to take off. I was told there was six bolts, if there are i cant see the six only 4. Is there a secret to this thing? I am going to try and find a manual for this today. but if you have any pointers i would be very thankful.
Just trying to save a few pennies i dont have to give to the boat dealer. I'm sure i will be there eventually to have the ujoint installed unless its like a car one and you can get to it easily when its off then i can do it. But as you know I dont know squat about boat repair as of yet. Thanks

Re: Having problem taking outdrive off

Here is a link to the service manual for your drive.....
Click on the parts you want to read on the last page.....http://www.boatfix.com/merc/Servmanl/6/6covr3.pdf

Remeber that it is imperative that the helm be in foreward for removal or damage will occur.......:)
There are actually eight nuts to be removed....
Six on the back that connect the drive to the bell housing & the two that hold the trim rams on.........
This is an easy procedure, should take ten minutes with a 9/16" & a 5/8" socket....
