I have a 1992 90hp johnson vro v4 on a 18 ft sunbird fish/ski. I took it out again today and after i ran it for about 2 hours, i went and ate lunch with my lady. When we came back after about an hour to leave the boat had alot of trouble starting. I choked it and crank and cranked and it finally started up. It had a large amount ofsmoke but that is normal..can someone help me with this.

It's time for carburetor rebuilds (2). your needle/seat valves (2) are leaking loading the engine up.

You can thank oxygenated (alcohol) fuel requirements.

Wouldn't that motor have 4 carbs on it?

I have a V6 that has similar trouble. I end up advancing the throttle and letting her run at 1200-1500 RPM in neutral for a couple of minutes until she runs smooth. I never could pipoint the cause for the warm start issue. it works perfect when coldstarting.

I have no problem with it cold starting either. It seems that it was only when i had run the engine. U said that the needle seat valves are leaking and loading the engine up. Could that also make it get bad gas milage? It sems that my boat got very poor gas milage today.

yep, get carb kits and rebuild them, very simple DIY project.
See the sticky file for pics and instructions.
Watch video for overall idea.
