I have 1989 Thompson Daytona gm 350 engine when I turn ignition, I get nothing not even a click. Changed ignition, needed a key anyway and still nothing. Could jump at starter and assist solonoid and with key in on position boat starts and runs but still nothing when key is turned also replaced assist solonoid at friend request but still samething. Any ideas?

Re: Having trouble starting

While someone attempts to start it, check for 12V on the small wire on the starter solenoid. If there are 2 small wires on the solenoid, one of them goes to ground. Or you can connect a jumper wire to that same wire and momentarily touch the other end to the pos terminal of the starting battery. If it tries to start there is a problem with the wire between the solenoid and the switch. If not, its the solenoid.

You can jumper across it temporarily to test it.
