Is Hummingbird side imaging in trouble w/ Lowrance releasing there Struture Scan. I read that Lowrance has a better 2D, so w/ side imaging and DOWN will that put Lowrance over the top?

Re: HB SI VS Lowrance SSC

If you would like some Ford / Chevy discussion, there is plenty on most bass fishing forums. Now that Lowrance has SS you will see new and better features coming each season, from both companies.

- From images I've seen, the Lowrance DI appears to provide a clearer image. Probably because Lowrance has a dedicated transducer for this over the HB.

- The SI images look near equivelent. I have not seen significant differences. Both take some tuning/adjusting to get very good images.

- HB added a feature last year called TVG on/off, which the marketing guys are calling Switchfire, this season. That, along with color pallette adjustments can make a HB 2D screen look very familiar to Lowrance users. HB can fill the screen with fish arches, if that is what you prefer.

- Customer Service at Lowrance has been an issue for many of the newer, higher end purchasers, over the last couple of years. There have been a number of technical glitches, and CS was slow to respond. Linda Colt who was to many owners, the only CS person at Lowrance, has left and caused quite a hailstorm of user protests.

- Entry level SI and being able to configure as portable units, HB still has the edge.

- Lowrance SS costs more, so far, HDS + SS

I wouldn't worry about Lowrance SS putting HB out of business. As a HB SI owner over the last few years, and many 2D units, starting with the TCR101, before that, I am not in the slightest worried. In fact, just as I stated at the start, it probably means more free S/W upgrade features.

Enjoy your new unit and post some of you SS and DS images.
