I have the one piece heads on my 88 V6. Any idea what torque can be applied to the head bolts without out snapping them. The are initially supposed to be torqued to 30 ft. lbs.. I am replacing the head gaskets and when I went to remove the bolts they wouldn't budge. I applied 60 ft. lbs. and they didn't move. So I figured if anyone had a good feel for the breaking limit of the bolts I could always stay within some safe range. I guess the MAPP torch is my next option.

Re: Head bolts (Laddies, Clams...)

andy, are all of them siezed?

I had a couple that gave me problems when I replaced my head gaskets a few years back. You might try a few things that seamed to help me out. First I hit the head of the bolt with a hammer (lightly) to kind of shock the bolt and free up the seized area. Another thing I tried was to actually try to tighten the bolt just a hair and then proceed to untighten. If it doesn't move however that won't help you... I was able to get all of them out, but did have one bolt that didn't break but pulled quite a few aluminum threads out with it. Had to re thread that one ...

Bought all new bolts of course for the assembly...

KCLOST-
I am not sure if all of them are siezed, but all the ones I tried were.

I guess its going to be a mixture of penetrating oil, heat, and patience.
