hello everyone, I am putting together an 89 200 hp evinrude after a long drawn out rebuild. I have misplaced the head bolts and was wondering if they are special bolts or if a good hardened bolt from the hardware store will work ok....Thanks, Jon

Re: head bolts

Grade 5 bolts from the hardware store should be OK, but watch the overall length AND the length of the threaded portion. If it isn't threaded far enough, they won't screw all the way in. OMC was famous for using odd length bolts.

I think that I will try the hardware store before I spend 400 on bolts. I thought big block chevy racing engines were expensive...wow. I just wanted to make sure that they werent aluminum bolts or something because I just cant remember what they looked like....Thanks Guys...Jon

Re: head bolts

Hey Guys....We did another (3rd time) search of the pole barn and found them. I dont know how we missed them the first 2 times but either way I am glad we found them. Sorry to have wasted your time but i do appreciate the help and the offers to get me some. Again, sorry to waste your time as there are other people that have real problems and not wasting your time like I did...Thanks, Jon
