My 1994 50 Hp Force worked awesome most of the summer, then it wouldn't idle one day to the point that I couldn't get it into gear and needed a tow home. I In mucking around with it, water in the fuel was the problem. It ran much better with fresh fuel but still would not idle. The local marina said it was not worth fixing, one cylinder had 5 psi the other 150 psi.

I took the head off last night and the metal ring on the gasket was blown on the weak cylinder. Due to the water, there was some rust inside and it took some time and oil to free things up. With peoples past experiences, will this motor run well again with a new gasket? Cylinder walls feel smooth to me but I'm not an experienced mechanic. Should I replace the in-line filter before starting up (water?). I don't have a manual, does anyone know the torque specs and pattern for installing a new head gasket? I saw the prices for new motors and I'm hoping I can hang onto this one. Any advice or shared experience would be appreciated! This forum is awesome!
