Hello all, Any suggestions on online purchase of head gasket for 90hp 91 Force 3 cylinder. Model 906X91E Serial 27670. Would like to purchase today. Also, what kind of sealant do I need to reinstall head gasket. Thanks in advance.

MAKE SURE THE TWO SURFACE ARE VERY CLEAN.
IF YOU GOT SOMETHING THATS VERY FLAT
LAY DOWN SOME EMERY AND RUN THE HEAD OVER IT
ONCE OR TWICE IT MAY BE WRAPPED.
I'M NOT SURE ABOUT SEALANT.

GOOD LUCK REX

906X91E Serial 27670

90 = HP

6 = No power trim - Breakerless ignition

X = Bayliner

91 = Year

Thought you might want to know breakdown of serial number.

E = Major model revision (Model year or midyear)

If there's a Mercury dealer in your area, ask for part # 27-820438. I agree with the emery cloth tratment and cleaning of the surfaces, but have never used sealant on a head gasket. Not sure of the cheapest on-line source for your part.

Rex is right on. The flatter, the better...
The finer the emery, the better. No goop. The new gasket is made to conform when compressed to spec. goop will not allow it to comform correctly.
So THAT is what the "X" is!!! I learnt somethin new. Thanx, Fone man :)

do not use sealant ever ! when you torque the head back down run bolts up snug I think 20 ftlbs is right you might check but they need to be torqued in sequence 2 insides then 2 out sides then 2 insides 2 outsides etc. till done retorque after a few hours no more than 10 on water

Force stuff can be bought at a great price with good service from Mastertech(out of Hawaii). Their site is www.maxrules.com
P.S.-No , I don't work for them but have used them and was pleasently pleased!

Re: Head Gasket Force

Thank you all. You guys are incredible. My boat will never see the repair shop again. I'm mechanically inclined but feared my outboard. Since I have joined this site I have found an electrical problem as well as low compression in one cylinder. As soon as I receive the parts and install them you guys will be the first to know how the boat is running. Thanks for everything! I hope I will be able to help someone else in the future. Thanks again!!

Re: Head Gasket Force

instead of emery paper try valve grind compound on a sheet of glass move the head in a circle on it. just make sure you clean the head real good before you reinstall
