I have a SELOC manual, seems straight forward and pretty easy, any hidden things to watch out for,<br />Formula

Does the SELOC manual suggest using graduated torque settings as you tighten the head bolts? Torque them all to 75 in-lb, then 150 in-lb, finally the 225 in-lb. Each time use a circular pattern, starting with the two center bolts, and working outward.<br /><br />Easy job. If any of the threads fail, stop and put in a helicoil. (removing the head first) Don't get any little metal drilling debris in the engine. I used masking tape to protect the cylinders when I drilled and tapped the head for the helicoil inserts. I only put them into the threaded holes which failed.<br /><br />Good luck

Gentlemen, Update, had friend come over and did compression check, 150 on all 4, then we loosened up the bottom 2 plugs and we saw water or what we thought water coming out the bottom 2 cylinders. Surely we thought the head gasket, well we pulled the head and turned over the engine and we noticed alot of extra fuel being pumped into the bottom 2 cylinders when we rotated it by hand. Cleaned everything up and put a new gasket on but it's still smoking like decarbing. Friend thinks it has something to do with the carbs, carb idle mixture adjustment needles being worn, HELP!!!!

When was the last time the carbs were rebuilt?<br /><br />It may be time.

The carb rebuild is pretty easy. Just follow your seloc manual. Be careful not to swap the carbs, or swap parts between the carbs. Don't remove the throttle plate or shaft if you don't have to, and don't remove the idle tube either... and yes, it's supposed to be curved and leaning against the body (nozzle) of the carb! You can remove the orifices with a small screw driver and clean them out with compressed air and a little solevent.<br /><br />I'm thinking you have a sticky float needle, not a bad idle needle

rebuilt the carbs today, everything seemed pretty easy but still got the same problem, could it be that the bottom 2 cylders aren't firing and expelling the gas out, I still have a bunch of gas coming out the exhaust along with the smoke it's killing my grass

Check your "puddle valve" screens too. If they're plugged up, the lower cylinder(s) will accumulate too much fuel mix and start fouling the plug(s) out. A condition that will only get worse with time. It's in the Seloc manual. It's easier to do than rebuilding a carb.

Stupid question maybe, but are you getting spark to the bottom 2 cyl's? Pull the plugs and ground a known good one to the block and crank it over on the bottom 2. Could be a bad power pack for the bottom 2...
