horn works, water coming out of pee hole.

Most OMC engines like around 140-45 - I don't know the specs for yours. When did you last change the water pump?

If the power head reaches 211 F the warning horn should sound continuos back of the trottle the horn will stop as soon as the power head reaches 175 F. 158 should be fine. Note: all this only leans on if your horn works

Horn works when shorted out on block. I did not replace the sensor when the t-stat was replaced. Shows how dumb I am.

Thanks for the help!!!!

Put the gun at the top of the head. You should read the temp there.I'm not sure about infrared, but if the thermostat is working, you'll see the temp fluctuate.

158 is too close to overheat, which is 163.Normal is back down around 145.

But if you hit 158 AND then go lower,it will work.

The 158 is on the hose so that might make a difference. Went fishing the last two days and had no over heating problems. Still not comfortable with the 158 reading. Trying to find some melt sticks.

Thanks for the help.
