I got my gaskets today, want to put motor together to go fishing in the morning, can someone tell me what the torque specs are for the head bolts???

Don't know the torque specs, but how do you expect to repair, reassemble anything with out a manual?

Do your self a favor and get one That way, when the waterpump goes, you can replace it without having to wait for questions to be answered.

Just got back from vacation and that wiped out allot of the extra cash, I am a mechanic, I take things apart and put em back together all day without a manual, all I asked for was the specs for the head bolts. I got help here on these forums before with engine I.D. and such. Thought that is why the forum is here.

Thanks for pointing out that if I had a manual I wouldn't be asking for the specs.

Now I still need the head torque specs for the head bolts please.

12-14 ft-lbs (144-168 inch lbs) seems excessive for 1/4-20 fasteners.

Commonly-accepted specs for a Grade 5 fastener (and I don't recall these being any higher than that) are 72 inch-lbs for oiled threads and 96 in-lbs for dry. I like to brush a thin coating of Permatex No. 3 aviation-type gasket dressing on the bolts, this keeps them from ever seizing in the head or block. Especially important if you're running in salt or alkali water. 72 in-lbs should be good for Permatex-coated bolts as well.

Note, be sure to re-torque the head bolts after the motor has cooled completely. And re-torquing again after 20 hours of operation, and once-a-season after that, will greatly decrease the possibility of another blown head gasket.

That's excessive. My 1965 6HP specification for the cylinder head screws is 60 to 80 inch pounds, which is probably closer to what you should use.
