I'm looking headers for my 95 Mariah Z212 with the Mercrusier 5.0LX 305 V8. The boat does have thru hull obviously. Anyone know how much these bad boys will cost? A good friend just bought some for his 350 and was around $4,000  but the boat sounds amazing. I'm gonna throw this out there of how much would a 'plug and play' 454 be? May it be cheaper to drop a stock 454 in, than to get headers? Thanks guys, just got the magical 'OK' so I'm using it :D

$4k for headers?? I don't think so. imo a 454 is going be to too big. Obviously significant modifications will need to be made. Just the same, I priced a new modified 7.4 for my boat and it was around $7k....thats with an intake, and ign. system, on the other hand, a Ebay re-man/new your looking $3k to $6k. As far as headers.....Try these guys marineengine dot com. I just replaced my exhaust manifolds and risers on my 454 for under a grand. Good prices and fast shipping. They also offer aftermarkets if the OEM stuff is too pricey for you.

BTW, sweet boat. I like the Mariah's, there classy. How fast does your 305 push her at now?

If you want to spend money buy a Vortec 350 long block and drop in a new motor. Cost $2k or less and will give probably 75-100 more hp depending on what 305 you have Leave the manifolds alone for now. Money better spent elsewhere. The rest of your 305 stuff will switch over.

I would vote for what N2 proposes. If you wanted a little more, then maybe a 383. A 454 or more, you probably would want to go to a Bravo drive over your Alpha. Alpha might be iffy with a 383.

The headers will only give you a different exhaust tone.

That is an outragouse price for headers. But you might want to see why you are low on outdrive lube. Bottle looks low to me.

Thanks, I love this boat. Just need to have some help getting more go go juice ;) I've been GPSed at 50 at sunset, so it was flat as glass. Full tank of fuel, and a co pilot (total weight between us, 300lbs.)

Thanks I will look into that. Money spent elsewhere, like a Holley 4 barrol?

The headers won't give ANY more power?

The picture is when we first bought the boat, its been full. I've very picky on stuff like that. If anything is 1/4 inch low, it get topped off. Everything I own is very well taken care of.

Not on a stock 305 or a 350 for that matter. Going from thru-prop to thru-transom does not even provide noticible improvement in performance.

A 350 vortec will provide a noticable improvement in planning time and wot speed, but you will still probably be under 60mph.

As mentioned your alpha won't hold up to much more than a 350, a 383 might be okay for a while but it WILL fail they just aren't built to handle the HP of a big block. So figure in a new outdrive with your costs. Money wise a 350 vortek would give the best bang for your buck.
