Heading back down to North Captiva again for a couple of weeks. I did not get a chance to hook up with PineIslandFred last time I was down but hoping the water levels are up this year and I can get around a little better. Anyone else down there that time of year?
Fred, I am planing on trying once again to slip into Fosters Bay, if the waters to low again this year (I have a 32" draft) maybe you can come by Barnicle phils or just meet us at the safety harbor docks for a cold one. are there any deeper channels so I can get in and tour around some of the canals in st James? Or can anyone tell me how the channels are getting into Lazy Flamingo up in Bokeelia? I bumped twice (lost one prop) going down the middle of the channel at Pineland Marina and stirred up the sand going in and out of the Safety Harbour.

Will be there from December Dec 18 to Jan 03

Re: Heading to North Captiva in Dec

At the risk of speaking out of turn, I've been to Sanibel and southern Captiva once (without my boat). It was my understanding that powered craft couldn't get within a certain distance of the shore of the island. Is that just Sanibel regulation, or does it have to do with the shallow coastline, or am I completely mistaken?

Since I got my boat I've always wanted to road trip down there and put around.

My apologies for the intrusion.

Oh, and that's one wicked bimini!

Looking forward to seeing you. Try to leave the wind at home this trip. Access to the LAZY FLAMINGO would be JUG CREEK, 4 winds marina. Believe its a good approach, once again tide permitting that time of year.
As for fosters bay, high tide desireable, lower tides can be done. Scrool down to post yesterday, SEA TOW-SALVAGE, give you an idea of potential problems. Boat was $140K, clearly pushing the salvage issue. High on the mud, 9 people aboard, no peril. Suprised they let him put a rope on it.
SEEDLING, not aware of any restrictions around the islands. If there is one it would prohibit motors in TARPON BAY, part of the DING DARLIN sanctuary. regards FRED

Yea, the pine side of the islands is very shallow that could be what you heard. But I have never heard of any actual restrictions. If you google map the area and zoom in on satellite you can see the areas that you can't get any where near with a regular boat. The Captiva / Pine Island area is the most beautiful area I have ever been. still has that old Florida charm. If you get a chance you should definitely take a little jaunt. I trailer my boat 2516km to enjoy that water.
