I hope I am correct about this. I am pulling the engine to replace all of the freeze plugs, check out the timing chain, and oil pump. Before the core plug on the back of the engine let go, I noticed that I was blowing oil out the exhaust. A lot of oil, very little smoke. checked the compression (148 low- 162 hi) so I do not think I am burning any. Plugs do not indicate oil fouling either. Someone told me that if the valve guides are worn, then oil will seep down and get blown out with the exhaust. That said and done. If I pull the heads, what can I expect to pay to have the valve guides redone? can they be redone?

Many can be replace, or knurled. Depends a lot on what engine you have.

While that's entirely Possible,...............

I'd sooner think the the Valve Guide Seals might be hardened,+ Leaking..........

That said,......
To deliver your Heads to the Bench of a MachineShop,+ Have them gone thru,... Valves Sharpened,.. Seats Ground,.. Seals Replaced,+ Generally Cleaned, Checked, Etc....
Will run about $100.00.........
Last I had done, I Think it was about $8.00 each for New Valve Guides Installed.............

There's Alot of "It Depends" in that statement.............. ;)

Thank, I totally forgot about the valve guide seals. That is something I can do (I think, maybe, sort of)

If the seals are bad, you can bet the guides are also. There are measurements to check the valve guides ya know. But you have to pull the head and valve springs to check them.
